In the studio of R.O.I. Olou, a large chalkboard is marked by notes, diagrams, and passing thoughts. Lines accumulate over months and years, blending and overtaking one another. What first appears as a disordered collection of fragments resolves itself into an increasingly coherent and personal network of ideas. This dynamic offers a useful analogue for Olou's multidisciplinary practice. A personal understanding of Systems Theory shapes his ways of working, helping him locate what he makes within a broad framework. He focuses on the points where ideas overlap, looking at how different parts of life can work together.

In this light, periods of focused studio production, teaching, and time spent moving through the city all contribute to one another. Stills from a TV show influence lessons on colour theory. The soft, pared-down marks made with pulp guide his approach with oils. Experiments with lustre pigments and pulp even touch his animations, reshaping one of his earliest creative languages. Every connected fibre, a theory of everything reflects a practice defined by accumulation, self-support, and exchange, where new decisions speak to those that came before.
